President-elect
Ken Jozefczyk has been Director of Pharmacy at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah since 2001. Previously he held positions as Director of Pharmacy the West Virginia University Hospitals and Assistant Director of Pharmacy at the Medical University of South Carolina. He received a B.S. in Pharmacy from Wayne State University in Detroit and an M.S. in Hospital Pharmacy from The Ohio State University. He also completed an ASHP-accredited residency at The Ohio State University Medical Center. He holds academic appointments with South University, Mercer University and the University of Georgia.
Ken has been a member of GSHP since 2001. He served as Director of the Southeastern district of GSHP from 2005 to 2009. He was part of the planning group that developed the Leadership Forum that is now a mainstay at GSHP meetings. Currently he serves as co-chair of the Public Relations Committee. He previously was an active member of both the South Carolina and West Virginia Societies of Health-system Pharmacists, serving in 1999-2000 as president of WVSHP. In 2009, Ken was honored by GSHP as their Pharmacist of the Year.
Ken resides in Savannah with his wife Susan and their children Harry, an incoming freshman at UGA, and Carolina a senior at the Savannah Arts Academy.
Treasurer
Eliza Hoernle currently practices at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia as the Pharmacy Clinical Quality Specialist. She precepts a medication safety rotation for students from UGA, Mercer and SC Colleges of Pharmacy. In addition to GSHP, Eliza is a member of ASHP, ACCP, PPAG and AAIP.
Since returning to Georgia in 1999, Eliza has been an active GSHP member. She served as the CSRA District Director-Elect and District Director (2003 – 2006). In 2005, Eliza was recognized as an “Outstanding District Director”. Presently, she is serving a 4th term as co-chair of the Public Relations Committee.
Eliza received a BSPharm (’83) from UGA and then completed a hospital residency at the Medical College of Georgia. After returning to UGA for a Pharm D (’86), she completed a pediatric specialty residency at Richland Memorial Hospital (Columbia, SC). Eliza has practiced as a pediatric/neonatal/quality & safety pharmacist for over 25 years in Maryland, South Carolina, Illinois and Georgia. She has also held faculty positions in Pharmacy Practice with the University Of South Carolina College Of Pharmacy and the University Of Concepcion School Of Pharmacy in Chile, South America.
Eliza now lives in Alpharetta with her husband (Claudio), daughter (Olivia), dog (Lucky), and cat (Daisy). Claudio’s job brought them to the Atlanta area in 2007. The family enjoys spending time with family & friends, traveling, tennis, boating, horseback riding, and gardening.
Central Georgia District Director-elect
Sandy Johnson, BS,PharmD Assistant Director of Pharmacy, Houston Healthcare, Perry Hospital Pharmacy Manager
Since graduating from UGA in 1978 with a BS degree, Sandy has worked for Houston Healthcare as the pharmacy manager for Perry Hospital. In 2001, she received her PharmD degree from UGA having completed the NonTraditional PharmD program as a member of the pilot class for that program.
As the manager for PH pharmacy dept, she serves on several committees including P&T and Infection Prevention and Control. She is also a preceptor for PharmD students from UGA.
Sandy resides in Bonaire with her husband, Doug. She has 2 grown children. Daughter Stacey is an accountant, currently employed by Quest Diagnostics as a Senior Financial Analyst. Son Will is employed by CIGNA as a Sales Representative. She has one granddaughter, Kyleigh , age 9. Sandy has been a member of GSHP since 1985.
Northeast Georgia District Director-elect
Trina von Waldner graduated from the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy with her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1986, and began practicing hospital pharmacy in Savannah. She served as the hospital pharmacy director at multiple locations including nine years at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald. Georgia. In 1998 she entered the Nontraditional Doctor of Pharmacy Pathway Program at the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy, graduating in 2001.
After receiving her Pharm.D. degree, Trina accepted a position with Public Health and served for six years as the Director of Pharmacy and Emergency Preparedness at the Southeast Health District in Waycross, Georgia. She joined the College of Pharmacy faculty in July of 2007 as the Director of Postgraduate Continuing Education and Outreach.
Trina lives in Athens and has three sons, one grandson and one granddaughter. Her oldest son David is married and lives in Douglas, Georgia. The middle son Derek is a junior at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro and her youngest son Daniel graduates from high school this spring and plans to attend Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville. Grandchildren Justin, 5 years and Jadyn, 20 months live in Douglas and are visited regularly by their grandmother.
Southeast Georgia District Director-elect
Mike Melroy is the Manager of the Pharmacy Department at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, GA. As manager, Mike is responsible for the clinical services provided by the department and is active on several different committees throughout the organization. Mike is also the founding director of the residency program at MUMC, and has faculty appointments at UGA College of Pharmacy, Mercer School of Pharmacy and South University School of Pharmacy.
Mike graduated from the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy in 1996 with his Pharm.D. then completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at the James A. Haley VA in Tampa, FL. Upon completion of his residency program, he returned to Savannah and worked as a Clinical Pharmacist in Critical Care at Memorial, then Clinical Coordinator before being promoted to the Department Manager. Mike obtained his Board Certification in Pharmacotherapy in January 2005. Mike is also a certified Six-Sigma Black Belt and has utilized these skills in various quality improvement projects throughout the hospital.
Mike has served on the GSHP Student and Resident Affairs Committee as well as presented at several GSHP Meetings. At the end of the current year, the residency program at Memorial will have graduated 38 residents who now work in a variety of clinical settings.
Mike resides in Savannah with his wife, Sarah and their three daughters, Lily (5), Anna Claire (3) and Charlotte (3).
Southwest Georgia District Director-elect
Matthew Clifton is from Moultrie, Georgia. Upon graduating from UGA in 2004, he returned home to work at PhoebePutneyMemorialHospital in Albany where he began work as a staff pharmacist. The valuable experience in hospital practice led him to branch out to satellite based hospital pharmacy work later his first year, beginning with Oncology and then NICU and working with the clinical teams for pharmacokinetics, nutritional services, and anticoagulant dose optimization.
Working in satellites began to stimulate his interest in teaching and precepting students. He began teaching Pharmacology at DartonCollege part-time in 2005 and has since begun acting as a preceptor for Oncology and Advanced Institutional pharmacy students and PGY1 pharmacy residents.
Matthew was named Lead Pharmacist for Sterile Compounding in June 2008 with the main objective to ensure USP 797 compliance for the hospital, which included full scale renovations and workflow redesigns. He also enjoys serving on a multitude of other hospital committees, acting as a liaison to oversee organizational goals such as the conversion to smart pump technology and computerized physician order entry.
In addition to his career, Matthew enjoys hunting, fishing, and golf and most of all good friends. He and his wife of 3 years, Christine, and 2 year old daughter, Lyla, make their home in Moultrie.
